There are a number of talks, presentations, consultations and events taking place at Inspire Cambridge 2018 which are FREE to attend. Space is limited, so, when you have decided which events you would like to attend, please scroll down and complete the Booking Form below.
All events take place in the Seminar Room (off the Coffee Lounge) unless otherwise stated. Talks and presentations will last for approximately 30-45 minutes. We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule any or all talks, presentations, consultations and events if necessary.
Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers
Friday 28th, Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th at Noon
Operating since 1782, Sworders are one of the longest established fine art and antiques auction houses in the United Kingdom. In the 21st century, they combine exceptional personal advice with innovative, thoughtful marketing and a deep understanding of the world of art and antiques. They hold approximately 40 auctions per annum, including specialist categories such as British & European paintings, Asian works of art, jewellery & watches, furniture and contemporary art and design.
Everyday during Inspire Cambridge 2018, one of the experienced specialist Auctioneers from the Sworders team will deliver an informative talk about how the auction process works, what to expect when you attend an auction and what are the hottest items in the auction houses right now.
John Lewis Home Design Service

The John Lewis Home Design Service- based locally at the Grand Arcade store in Cambridge, turns interior design dreams into reality. From single rooms to whole house projects, the service has a team of experts ready to help. The Home Design Stylists offer two types of appointment. The first is a 90-minute in-store session that focuses on how to update one room by altering a few key pieces. After working through your ideas in store and getting a sense of your style and budget, the Stylist will offer suggestions on everything from flooring and curtains to finishing touches. Everyday during Inspire Cambridge 2018, one of the talented Stylists from the John Lewis Cambridge team will deliver an informative talk about:
Friday and Sunday at 1pm:How to Accessorise Your Home - change the look and the feel of your home without redecorating. Small ideas with big results.
Saturday at 1pm: How to be Bold With Pattern and Colour - have more confidence when choosing paint, wallpaper and accessories: using an accent colour to change the feel of a room.
Friday 28th at 3pm
For over 20 years, Jimmy’s has been providing help for the homeless in Cambridge. They work with the local community, volunteers and partner agencies to deliver 24/7 emergency accommodation and supported housing for those who would otherwise be homeless or vulnerably housed.
'Life on a Bench' talks are delivered by two former guests of Jimmy’s with a host, detailing their personal journey from street floor to front door. How they came to be homeless, their journey through Jimmy’s and what they are doing now.
David Parr House
Friday 28th at 4pm IN THE WINE BAR
Cambridge is about to welcome a new hidden gem to its cultural offering. Next Spring David Parr House at 186 Gwydir Street will open to the public for the first time although a lucky few have already been through the front door.
Tamsin Wimhurst, Chair of the Trustees of David Parr House will be delivering a talk about the history and the future of this fascinating project on Friday 28th September at 4pm in the Wine Bar. At 5pm, straight after Tamsin's talk, there will be an Auction of Experiences to raise money for the project. This will also take place in the Wine Bar and all are welcome to attend (see below).
Charity Auction for David Parr House
Friday 28th at 5pm IN THE WINE BAR, ALL WELCOME NO NEED TO BOOK! A Charity Auction will take place to support one of the city's hidden attractions, the David Parr House which is to open to the public in Spring 2019. David Parr House is the official Charity Partner for Cambridge Art Fair 2018.
