The inaugural Inspire Cambridge, presented by Velvet Magazine launched at Quy Mill Hotel & Spa, alongside the well-established Cambridge Art Fair last month.
Inspire Cambridge, sponsored by John Lewis Home Design Service, Sworders Auctioneers and David Hall Kitchen & Furniture Makers, attracted thousands of visitors and a wonderful collection of exhibitors in the home, property, food and drink industries from across the East of England region.
Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and exhibitors and to all those who came along to support the event. We look forward to developing the event for 2019 so that it attracts even more fantastic independent businesses from across the region.
David Hall Kitchen & Furniture Makers made Kate Osborne's dream a kitchen reality, as she explains...
"When we started the complete renovation of our family home we knew the kitchen was going to be one of the most important elements to get right for us. We were looking for a kitchen designed according to our tastes and to best utilise the space; we didn't want to pick one of three designs from a High Street 'bespoke' kitchen retailer.
What we received from David Hall, both in terms of the finished kitchen and the service throughout was that and so much more. They're a small business, which is very apparent in the outstanding customer service, and yet the quality of the kitchen far outshines anything we saw from (much more expensive) bigger brands.
We like to shop locally and support independent businesses, so to be able to do that when shopping for a kitchen was great and the benefits were very apparent. When we were designing the kitchen we got to sit down with both David and Frances, and it was lovely to know that he would be the person making our kitchen in the workshop just below us; it added a real personal touch to the whole experience.
"We went in with ideas of our own which were certainly taken on board, but they were also not shy about suggesting alternatives based on their years of experience designing and building kitchens.
They worked hard to design something within our budget and in the end we have a kitchen that not only looks beautiful, but flows so seemlessly that it is a real pleasure to spend time in.
David Hall Kitchen And Furniture Makers is a headline sponsor for Inspire Cambridge. Come along to Inspire Cambridge, 27th to 30th September at Quy Mill Hotel & Spa, and meet David and Frances to discuss your kitchen dream...

We are pleased to announce that the John Lewis Home Design Service is sponsoring Inspire Cambridge, presented by Velvet Magazine.
The John Lewis Home Design Service- based locally at the Grand Arcade store in Cambridge, turns interior design dreams into reality. From single rooms to whole house projects, the service has a team of experts ready to help.
In need of interiors inspiration? Whether you're refreshing one room or rethinking your whole home, the John Lewis Home Design Service can help with free style advice or an in-depth design consultation.
The Home Design Stylists offer two types of appointment. The first is a 90-minute in-store session that focuses on how to update one room by altering a few key pieces. After working through your ideas in store and getting a sense of your style and budget, the Stylist will offer suggestions on everything from flooring and curtains to finishing touches. At the end of the appointment, you'll leave with a personalised shopping list of all the items you've chosen together. Your Stylist can also place any orders or collate your selection of items fo you to take home on the day.
If you're looking to completely revamp up to three rooms, there is the option of an in-depth, two-hour home visit during which your Stylist can get to know your living space. After the visit, you will be invited back to the store for a 60-minute follow up, at which your Stylist will present a digital mood board of ideas and a shopping list of items for a personalised design scheme. They will also place any orders, send out samples and arrange measuring appointments if required. This in-depth design consultation costs £250, which is redeemable when you spend more than £1,500 through the Home Design Service.
Both of these appointments can be booked online at johnlewis.com/homedesignservice or pop into John Lewis Cambridge and speak to one of the store's four Stylists: Sandra McCall, Jane Gaylard, Sheena Middlemass or Philippa Northon.

We are very pleased to announce that David Hall Kitchen & Furniture Makers will be sponsoring the inaugural Inspire Cambridge in 2018.
David Hall Kitchen and Furniture Makers (then David Hall Bespoke Furniture) were based in London for over 25 years making architect-designed furniture for the loft apartments and bars of Shoreditch, the property developers of Kensington, Chelsea and Knightsbridge and many private clients. The quality of their cabinetry was recognised by RIBA in 2006 and has featured in numerous publications.
This rich experience working with some of London's top designers gave David (who trained in Interior Design at Chelsea School of Art) invaluable exposure to highly prestigious properties at the luxury end of the market. Where architecture considers light and space, their mission is to design contemporary interiors which consider the beauty in proportion, material selection and detail.
They aim for excellence and make everything themselves so that nothing leaves their workshop without being handled and scrutinised for workmanship and quality of finishes. They are proud to produce pieces that are a true pleasure to look at, touch and use, and a joy to own.
In January 2010 the business relocated to David's native Cambridge and together with Frances, the company focused on designing and making bespoke kitchens. This partnership ensures that their kitchen designs function on an ergonomic and practical level- as an efficient working space where daily meals are prepared (and cleared away) and as the hub of daily life, as well as at an aesthetic level- being a 'wow' space of beautiful bespoke cabinetry & an ideal setting for more glamorous entertaining or just coffee with friends.
Although they specialise in kitchens, David Hall Kitchens & Furniture Makers are equally adept at designing and making furniture for other rooms of the house and recent projects include a dining table, sideboard, library, wardrobes, bed and bedroom chest, and living room AV installations. From conception to completion all of their clients are assured of their high level of commitment to quality and service.
Make sure you visit the David Hall Kitchens & Furniture Makers stand at Inspire Cambridge presented by Velvet Magazine, 27-30 September at The Cambridge Roar Marquee, Quy Mill Hotel & Spa, Stow-cum-Quy.
We are very pleased to announce that the first ever Inspire Cambridge will be presented by Velvet Magazine, as part of a partnership with Iliffe Media. This fantastic new home interest consumer show will now be known as Inspire Cambridge, presented by Velvet Magazine.
It is great to be working so closely with the brilliant team at Iliffe Media on this new project. We worked with them on Cambridge Art Fair 2017 as media partner and currently as joint venture partners for Motor Show EAST 2018. We have been able to develop effective working relationships very quickly with several key members of the team and we look forward to making the most of those working relationships for Inspire Cambridge.
Iliffe Media will manage exhibition and sponsorship sales for the event. The glossy Velvet Magazine will be the lead title in an expansive marketing campaign that will cover the eastern region, culminating in a special edition in September that will become the 'fair guide' for the event. They will continue to be Media Partner for Cambridge Art Fair which runs alongside Inspire Cambridge, presented by Velvet Magazine, at the new and improved Cambridge Roar Marquee at Quy Mill Hotel & Spa.
We are confident that our partnership with Iliffe Media will enable us to deliver a successful, high quality event that provides valuable exposure and selling opportunities for our exhibitors, partners, sponsors and advertisers.
